License Overview
Buying a product on Dreams Marketplace grants you a license to use it. It does not transfer ownership: the author retains copyright in the work, and you receive the specific permissions set out below and on the product's listing.
Every license is issued to your account, is recorded with a unique purchase code, and carries three limits the author configures per product — an activation limit (how many machines may run it at once), an update window (how long newly published versions remain included), and a support term. Authors may offer a product under more than one license type; the marketplace supports a regular license, an extended license, and a perpetual license whose update window does not expire. The listing states which are available and at what price.
Standard License
The regular license — the standard tier, and the one most listings sell — permits use in a single end product, whether that end product is yours or a client's. The end product may be commercial. Access to the product is not sold on: your client receives the end product, not the licensed files.
Key limits:
- One end product per license. A second project needs a second license.
- End users of your end product may not extract the licensed files and use them separately.
- The end product may not be one in which the licensed item is the primary value being sold — that requires the extended license.
Extended License
The extended license permits everything the regular license does, and additionally allows the licensed item to be used in an end product that is itself sold to multiple end users, such as a paid template, a commercial theme, or a product distributed through another marketplace. It is still one end product per license.
The extended license does not grant redistribution of the item on its own, does not transfer copyright, and does not remove the activation limit.
Permitted Use
Under either license you may:
- Use the item in one end product, personal or commercial.
- Modify the item and combine it with other work.
- Deploy the end product for a client, and transfer that end product to them.
- Make backup copies for your own use.
- Continue using versions you downloaded during your update window after that window expires — the license does not lapse, only the entitlement to newer versions.
Prohibited Use
Under either license you may not:
- Redistribute, resell, sublicense or give away the item in its original or substantially unmodified form.
- Publish the item, or any part of it, in a repository, asset pack, template library or file-sharing service.
- Share, publish or embed a purchase code or license key where others can obtain it.
- Circumvent activation limits, license checks or download controls, or remove attribution the license requires.
- Use the item in a product that competes with Dreams Marketplace by redistributing marketplace items.
- Use the item in material that is unlawful, or that infringes a third party's rights.
Commercial Use
Both license types permit commercial use of the end product. Neither requires a revenue share, a royalty, or a report of what you earn. What distinguishes them is not whether you are paid but how many end users receive the end product: one end product sold to one client falls under the regular license; one end product sold repeatedly to many end users requires the extended license.
Redistribution
Redistribution of the item itself is prohibited under every license type sold on the marketplace. This applies to the original files, to a re-exported or converted copy, and to a bundle in which the item is one component among others. If you want to make the item available to other people as an item, that is not a license question — the author would have to agree separately, in writing.
Source Code
Where a product includes source code, the license covers that source code on the same terms as the rest of the item. You may read and modify it, and you may ship the compiled or built result inside your end product. You may not publish the source code, or a derivative of it, as a standalone work. Third-party components inside a product remain under their own licenses, which the author is required to disclose on the listing.
Updates
Products are versioned. When an author publishes a new version, buyers whose update window has not expired may download it at no additional cost; buyers whose window has expired keep everything they already downloaded and may renew to take the window forward from its current expiry. A perpetual license has no update-window expiry.
An author is not obliged to publish updates, and a purchase does not entitle you to future features.
Support
Support is a separate term from the license. Each purchase includes a support window — commonly six months, extendable to twelve — during which the author undertakes to answer questions about the item and to address defects. Support covers the item as sold; it does not cover your end product, customisation work, or third-party components. When a support window lapses the license is unaffected.
Intellectual Property
The author retains copyright and all moral rights in the item. Dreams Marketplace holds a license from the author to host, display and deliver it, and issues your license on the author's behalf. Nothing in this agreement assigns copyright, grants trademark rights, or permits you to represent yourself as the author of the item.
If you believe an item infringes your copyright, the DMCA Policy sets out how to report it.
License Termination
A license terminates if it is refunded or charged back, if it is revoked following a breach of these terms, or if the account holding it is closed for a policy violation. On termination you must stop using the item and remove it from end products not yet delivered; end products already delivered to a client before termination are not retrospectively unlicensed unless the termination followed fraud.
Termination of a license does not entitle you to a refund beyond what the Refund Policy provides.
